車山とからくり
余坂の車山
◆宝袋（ほうてい）
総白木造りで、彫り物も白木でできていることが特徴の車山。また、中山に人形を載せている点も特徴である。
これきぶは「麾振(きぶ)り人形」と言われるもので、通称「余坂のベロ出し」と呼ばれ、異様な面相で真っ赤な長い舌を出し入れする。
一八四二年の大火で車山も焼失したが、一八七〇年に再造されて現在に至っている。
車山名はからくりから付けられたが、夜車山の丸提灯には江戸時代の呼称である「二福神」と書かれている。
◆Hotei Yama (Yozakacho Precinct)
This yama's carvings are made of unpainted wood. On the front of the middle deck stands a Kiburi puppet. It is also called the “Bero dashi of Yozaka”. He waves strips of ceremonial white paper in an act of purification. He sticks out his long, red tongue from his strange face. In 1842 there was a big fire in Inuyama and this yama was burned. The yama currently in use was constructed in 1870. The name Houtei (treasure bag) is taken from its karakuri. On the paper lanterns used in the evening procession “Nifukujin”, the yama’s name in the Edo period, is written.

◆ニ福神（にふくじん）
宝袋車のからくりは、恵比寿・大黒、二福神の舞で、大変おめでたいからくりです。大黒は、もともとはヒンドゥー教のシヴァ神の化身であり、大国主命と神仏習合してできた神道の神です。
からくり奉納の前に、中山の勾欄で「余坂のベロだし」の愛称で呼ばれている前人形が、目を剥き、舌を出し入れしながら御幣を振り、お祓いをします。上山に目をやれば、大黒様が遥か彼の地にあるという「宝袋」を求めて永い旅を続けています。やっと見つけた「宝袋」に大黒様が福槌を振り下ろすと。「宝袋」は真っ二つに割れて、中から宝船に乗った恵比寿様が舞い上がります。二体の人形は大喜びをして、左右に動きます。舳先に立った恵比寿様は、腕を上げ、扇を開いて大きく扇ぎます。それを見て大黒様も大喜びをします。
終わりが近づくと、恵比寿様・大黒様共々、神前に礼をして、静かに下がっていきます。最後に、いかに早く「宝袋」を元の状態に戻すことが出来るかが、からくる者の腕の見せ所です。
◆Nifukujin (Two gods of fortune)
The name of this float, Hotei, means a bag of treasure. The karakuri show is performed by two of the seven gods of good fortune, Ebisu and Daikoku, and is regarded as being very celebratory. Daikoku is the Shinto god of wealth and is a combination of the Hindu God Shiva and the ancient Japanese god Okuninushi no Mikoto.
Before offering the float to the shrine, a doll on the middle deck opens its eyes wide and sticks out its long tongue. It makes a prayer by shaking a gohei (a wand tipped with strips of paper used in Shinto ceremonies).
On the top deck of the float Daikoku is in the middle of his long trip looking for a treasure bag which is said to be hidden in a far away place. He finally finds the bag and strikes it with his mallet named Fortune. The bag splits open and Ebisu appears on a treasure ship and begins to dance with Daikoku. On the edge of the ship Ebisu opens his fan and swings it wide, which pleases Daikoku. At the end of the performance both gods bow towards the shrine before heading to the back of the stage.
The highlight of the show is how quickly they return the treasure bag to its original state after the performance.
