◆Seiobo (The Fairy Queen)

The name of the float, Seiobo, comes from a famous Noh play. Once upon a time there was a fairy called Seiobo living in the mountains in China. She ate a magical peach extending her life for 3000 years.
That day she asked a karako to pick the peach for her. The karako immediately climbed the tree, swinging from branch to branch. The karako makes a final leap and hangs from a scroll slowly descending with it out of sight underneath the pedestal. The karako quickly reappears and is transformed into a framed scroll with the word yodai written on it.
Yodai is a beautiful building decorated with precious stones which represents paradise.
Besides Inuyama there are two other cities that have Seiobo Karakuri. One is nearby in Komaki City in Aichi Prefecture while the other is in Otsu City in Shiga Prefecture. The one here in Inuyama is the most elaborate. The Inuyama karakuri was rebuild in Inuyama by a famous mechanic named Tamaya Shobei around 1770.
